These fees are provided for your consideration in deciding if you should have a consultation with me. I am not your Memphis lawyer and am not undertaking professional responsibility for your case unless after a consultation you have received a letter signed by me indicating I am undertaking representation of your matter and any retainer agreed upon has been paid and any funds for the retainer have cleared your bank. All matters discussed in the initial consultation will be privileged and remain confidential even if you do not wish to retain me or I do not agree to represent you. In addition, I will give a general analysis of your legal situation and potential issues you should be addressing in the initial consultation. Retainers - In hourly fee matters I require a substantial retainer. For a contested divorce where I am the first lawyer, the retainer will generally be $1250 without children and $2000 with children. Litigation is expensive. It is even more expensive if you are paying for work on another client’s behalf the attorney didn’t get paid for. Consultation Fees - Consultation fees are payable before the consultation starts. For an evening or weekend appointment I require prepayment by credit card. Consultations on weekends or after five in the evenings -$85 Additional Half Hour if Needed- $50 Personal Injury Consultations are free. Costs - In addition to attorney’s fees you will be responsible for any costs, which are expenses connected with the case paid by me. These can be substantial and include but are not limited to filing fees, jury fees, expert fees, court reporter costs, transcripts, travel expenses outside of Shelby County, copies, and postage. Attorney’s Fees - Flat Rates - Uncontested Divorces -$500 – This includes a one hour initial consultation, preparation of documents, and a court appearance. It does not include any negotiation, this is for when you've worked out all the substantial issues. This is for an irreconcilable differences divorce with no property or children. (A divorce with children is $750). Quit Claims deeds are an additional $125. Demand Letters- $250- This is for researching and drafting a letter demanding that someone either stop taking an action infringing upon your legal rights or comply with a legal right held by you. This rate includes reviewing up to fifty pages of supporting documentation and up to one hour of research. Hourly and contingent fees - The hourly rate is negotiable either up or down depending on the case. I charge in quarter hour increments with a two hour minimum for court appearances. In matters where attorney’s fees are recoverable and I have agreed to represent you without guarantee of payment by you my fee is $265 hourly. Contingent Fees - Debt collection matters are handled on a contingency fee or hourly basis. In any matter where monetary damages are recoverable, a contingent fee may be negotiated if I feel the matter can be handled profitably. Call 1-901-255-2740 or e-mail attorneydavid@mymemphislawyer.com to schedule a consultation. Remember that it is not clear that attorney-client privilege applies to e-mail due to the broadcast nature of the medium, so don't put any information in the e-mail that you wouldn't want to appear in court. attorneydavid@mymemphislawyer.com Category Suggestions Memphis lawyer - Memphis divorce lawyer - Personal injury lawyer memphis
